BPAY
Grit. Australian drought stories.

We worked on an online exhibition and art direction that captured the grit and stoic strength of Aussie farmers battling through one of the toughest droughts in living memory. Highlighting the plight of the once fertile, now dry, gritty terrain these proud men and women make a living from. Featuring the work of Sydney based photographer Joel Pratley, and filmmaker Kyra Bartley. It was part of an initiative led by BPAY, Australia’s leading bill payment service in partnership with Rural Aid to help drought affected communities pay their bills.

Photography by Joel Pratley

Joel Pratley’s distinctive style of portraiture has been awarded in various contests from Head On, Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize and the Nation Photographic Portrait Prize. Pratley credits much of his success to his gut-instinct, “timing plays a big part and being open to take risks while on the go”.
